Two boys and fundraiser for type 1 research update

Well you may know that I started a fundraiser for the Juvenile Diabetes Research foundation through the following link

It is going really well and so far after just about two weeks we have almost $1500. Not too bad and I haven't even hit up the good folks at work yet! But I digress on what I was going to say.

I really started this for the younger set. They may find a cure before I'm toast but if they do I think it will be a while down the road. So I'm focusing on kids with it and soon to get it.

There are two boys in Lila's 3rd grade class of 150 or so that developed it in the last few years. I wanted to let their parents know about it so they could see that you can do what you want to do. On Friday, I was dropping Julian off at after school daycare and there was one of the boy's grand mother. I  knew her as she taught a class for baby safety that we went to when expecting Lila. I gave her the web site and she said her Grandson was really excited when team type 1 came through town with the US Pro Challenge last summer. And would pass it along.

Then later that night we were at the grade school talent show and there was the other boy's mom. They just live a block away but it is amazing how hard it is to find time to stop by.... I gave her the info and she was very happy to talk about it. Her son was also very excited with Team type 1 in town. She emailed me a few days later thanking me and was very happy with the support.

And that's the news. So far we raised some cash and helped two little boys with a real stupid disease.

Riding in the winter in Gunnison CO and big projects.

We've had a warmer than normal winter so far and less snow also. This meant that I have been riding my bike a bit and not skiing much. It is actually the first time in many years that I haven't done the Nordic marathon Alley loop ski race. I rode my bike. I had a 2 hr ride in the snow at Hartman Rocks. It was sunny and it made it feel warmer than the mid 20s that it was.

I've taken on two really big projects this winter. The first is the aforementioned Tour Divide race. Many a detail to work out there. I think I have the bike set up ready to go. I just have to figure out how far apart the towns along the route are so I can refuel. I think it will go well.

My second big project it a bicycle race I have become the director for. In the hopes to get our Western State Team in the top standings in NCAA Div II, we decided to host a timed tour or gran fondo. I'll be 130 mi from Gunnison, out the north rim of the black canyon, to Crawford, Paonia, and back over Kebler pass to finish in Crested Butte. So many permits etc to get laid out. Check out the web site.. West Elk race....

Well off to play in the snow pile with the kids...
